bob monkhouse wipeout comedian

Bob Monkhouse
Born in Beckenham, Kent,1 June 1928, Bob Monkhouse of Wipeout was one of British television's most prolific performers, indelibly etched on the minds of the public as the smooth, wise-cracking host of countless game shows. Initially a stand-up comic, Monkhouse's early years were spent writing gags for himself and other performers.
Early in his career he wrote material for Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and

Jerry Lewis. Since then he has performed with everyone from Morecambe and Wise to Jim Carrey.

His game shows range from The Golden Shot to Celebrity Squares and Bob's Full House. He was in the first Carry On film - not to mention the 1959 film Dentist On The Job - and a series of dramas from Take Three Girls to Jonathan Creek. He also acquitted himself well in Have I Got News For You.
When he died in December 2003 he left a gap which could never be filled in light entertainment.
