Considered one of Britain's consistently brilliant actors John Hurt is the son of a clergy man. John was studying art when he decided to he wanted to become an actor and enrolled at RADA. He began his film and theatrical career in 1962.

John Hurt has worked extensively in theatre and joined the RSC for many productions, but he has worked primarily in television and film and has had the great good fortune to win some of the most memorable TV and Film roles of all time. Quentin Crisp as 'The Naked Civil Servant', Caligula in BBC's 'I Claudius', Winston Smith in '1984', Stephen Ward in 'Scandal', John Merrick 'The Elephant Man' . John Hurt has always avoided being stereotyped and taken on widely differing roles so successfully that he never fails to win the viewers sympathy and the critics acclaim, even in such cult films as 'Alien' where his struggle with an alien emerging from his chest is an all time classic or the gangster classic 'The Hit' with Ralph Brown. Never shy of controversy, John Hurt is set to delight TV audiences with his latest role as the flamboyant MP in 'The Alan Clark Diaries' for the BBC.
